Seoul National University Bundang Hospital Achieves HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 Revalidation

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, 27 December 2019  – Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) located in Seoul, South Korea has been successfully revalidated at Stage 7 on the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). In demonstrating compliance against the standards, SNUBH has reaffirmed its commitment to use technology to improve patient safety and the overall quality of clinical care. SNUBH is the first hospital outside of the United States to be revalidated twice at Stage 7 of the EMRAM.

One of the central features of SNUBH’s EMR system – known as BESTCare 2.0 –  is the clinical data warehouse, health information exchange and closed-loop medication administration system using RFID and barcode technology. As the importance of delivering efficient, quality care grows, more hospitals are moving to integrate IoT-based technology into their healthcare information system.

Additionally, SNUBH sought to use technology for effective data management of medical implants. Before the implementation of a tracking and management system, the data extraction period for the medical implants for follow-up management took about one week; under the new system, that information is now available within 30 seconds after the implementation. The input rate of medical implant material information at SNUBH has improved from 25.8% to 100%.

The EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) is an eight stage model that measures digital maturity in hospitals. Achieving EMRAM Stage 7 reflects the desire of the hospital to become paperless and to use information and technology in a way that creates benefit for both patients and clinicians.
