Stage 7 Case Studies
Since 2005, HIMSS Analytics’ EMR Adoption Model℠ (EMRAM) has tracked the adoption of EMR applications within hospitals and health systems across the US. Institutions work to complete the 8 stages (0 - 7), with the goal of reaching Stage 7: an environment where paper charts are no longer used. This list is updated weekly.
About the Case Studies
Stage 7 healthcare organizations demonstrate superior implementation and utilization of health IT systems. Their achievement has resulted in the true sharing, information exchange and immediate delivery of patient data to improve process performance, quality of care and safety.
These case studies provide insight and guidance that others can emulate. They are also a summary of each organization’s journey to the top of the EMR Adoption Model.

The HIMSS Analytics DELTA Powered™ Suite
Collecting data is only half of the equation.
In the era of Big Data, your healthcare organization has access to more information than ever before - but what are you doing with it? HIMSS Analytics’ DELTA Powered Suite helps you assess your healthcare organization’s analytical maturity.
What can analytical optimization do for me?
The DELTA Powered suite helps healthcare organizations understand where they currently are with regard to analytics maturity and develop a structured path to maximize the use of analytics enterprise-wide.
How does it work?
Via an online survey, participants rank the importance and effectiveness to which your organization uses analytics, intelligence applications and data to inform decision-making.
You receive a custom benchmarking report that includes DELTA scoring which can be used to map your organization’s progression to analytical maturity.
What does my DELTA score mean?
Based on the results of the online Analytics Assessment, scores are associated with Levels 1 – 5 on the DELTA Powered Maturity Roadmap. DELTA scores provide a baseline and help guide your organization to analytical maturity.
"By knowing our EMR Adoption Model Score, we could more accurately chart our course for achieving meaningful use."
Continuity of Care Maturity Model
Going beyond EMRAM

|Stage 5||Community-wide patient record using applied information with patient engagement focus|
|Stage 4||Care coordination based on actionable data using a sematic interoperable patient record|
|Stage 3||Normalized patient record using structural interoperability|
|Stage 2||Patient-centered clinical data using basic system-to-system exchange|
|Stage 1||Basic peer-to-peer data exchange|
|Stage 0||Limited to no e-communication|
Together we can shape tomorrow.
The Annual Study collects information relating to software, products, hardware inventory, and clinician use of health IT. Aggregate data is de-identified and shared with other healthcare organizations that also complete the study to help encourage collaboration and advance the industry overall.

The HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM)℠ was created to track healthcare organizations’ progress towards achieving a paperless patient record environment. Hospitals and ambulatory care facilities are scored based on their level of a EMR adoption from Stage 0 through Stage 7.
Hospital Profiles allow you to view a succinct inventory of your organization’s information technology, as well as general hospital statistics ranging from number of physicians and licensed beds to total number of patient days.
These reports compare your organization's operations to peers based on IT budget, staffing and service levels. Benchmarking reports also include comparisons of clinical application portfolio capabilities using HIMSS Analytics EMRAM scoring algorithms.
